Chairman’s Message – Session 2026

By Henry T. L. CHAN, Chairman (Session 2026), Power & Energy Section, The IET Hong Kong

Henry ChanPower and energy are at the heart of how our city lives, moves and grows. In Session 2026, it is my privilege to serve as Chairman of the Power & Energy Section (PES). Together, we will keep PES a vibrant home for professionals to connect, learn and contribute so that ideas can turn into solutions for a cleaner, smarter and more resilient future.

We enter 2026 with strong momentum. In Session 2025, PES delivered nine technical events and welcomed over 500 members and guests. Our flagship programmes, the 23rd Annual Power Symposium 2025 (PS2025) on “Grid-Interactive Building: New Opportunities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence Towards Carbon Neutrality”, and APSCOM 2025 on “Embracing Next Generation Technologies towards a Flexible, Reliable, Resilient & Sustainable Power Grid”, brought together leaders from government, industry and academia, and created valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and professional networking.

Equally important, we invest in people. Through the IET PES Outstanding Power and Energy Engineering Graduate Awards, we encourage emerging talents to step forward as our “Tomorrow Leaders”. We also celebrate dedication and service through the “Power Leader Service Award” because a strong profession is built not only on innovation, but also on commitment, mentorship and community spirit.

In Session 2026, we will stay focused on a simple promise: serve our members, serve the community, and strengthen the connections that move our industry forward. Guided by our mission, PES will (i) continue to organise regular technical events (targeting around one event per month), (ii) nourish and cultivate younger generations for a sustainable talent pipeline, (iii) embrace collaboration with stakeholders and professional bodies, and (iv) support new initiatives at Branch level. We are also committed to building a more diverse, inclusive committee so that our leadership better reflects the community we serve and more voices can shape our direction. We will also deepen long-lasting relationships with institutions in Greater China and overseas so that our members can learn from wider perspectives and contribute on a broader stage.

My heartfelt thanks go to our advisors, committee members, volunteers, speakers, sponsors and partners for your unwavering support. Most importantly, thank you to every member who attends our events, shares a lesson learned, asks a thoughtful question, or brings a colleague along. I invite you to take part in PES Session 2026 – join our programmes and connect with peers who care about building a flexible, reliable, resilient and sustainable power system for the years ahead.
