Power and Energy Section
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is a globally leading professional learned society in the field of engineering and technology.
The IET’s professional disciplines cover a wide range of areas, including power and energy, railways and transportation, electronics and communications, manufacturing and industrial engineering, information and control technology, as well as management. The Power and Energy Section (PES) is one of the major sections of IET Hong Kong. Its members include professionals from government departments, public organizations, and the engineering industry, as well as academics from universities and research institutions.
PES focuses on promoting key technical areas such as energy generation and utilization, energy infrastructure, energy efficiency, energy services, power systems, building electrical services and installations, electrical machines and electronic drive technologies, and clean energy applications.
PES regularly organizes a wide range of professional exchange activities. Its flagship events include the Annual Power Symposium and the Asia-Pacific International Conference on Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM), which is held every three years. In addition, PES organizes monthly online seminars, training sessions, and technical visits related to continuing professional development, to enhance and meet the professional development needs of its members.
To promote sustainable urban development, the 20th Annual Power Symposium, held in September 2022, discussed new technological developments in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and explored the challenges and opportunities arising in the journey toward carbon neutrality.
Through these activities, PES not only provides IET members working in the power and energy engineering field with a platform to share valuable knowledge and experience, but also creates opportunities for professional exchange. This enables PES committee members to contribute their expertise to society and to establish long-term relationships with engineering professionals from local, Greater Bay Area, and overseas organizations.
